Since I was born in June 1938, in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, England, Great Britain, I was just a young kid during the bombings of the Battle of Britain and World War II. I remember our bomb shelter at the end of our garden, half of it was in the ground and if we had time we would go there, if not, well we ducked under the nearest table and would hang on for dear life. If you have ever seen the movie "Mrs. Miniver" with Greer Garson, well it was exactly like the one her family had.
Another alternative during the bombing was a cupboard under the stairs, which was also where the electric meter was. I used to love and go in there and put the money in (sort of like a parking meter - pay as you go). It was also where we kept our shoes and canned goods. One day .......... (more to follow)
